Flashback: July 24, 2008

I have been going through some old emails and came across this one today.  I can't believe how fast the time has gone!

Hello:

It is hard to believe that we have been home for a month already.  It has gone
by so quickly!    We have seen Jonah grow and learn so much in this past month.
(We have also learned a lot about being parents!)  Here are some highlights of
the past four weeks:

-Jonah has gained 10 ounces (a good start!).  He is still wearing 12 M clothes
but we are hopeful he will be graduating to 18 M soon.  (His belly is closer to
18 M than anything else!)
-He has a new tooth.  Jonah had four teeth on top and three on bottom when he came home.  He now
has a fourth tooth coming in on bottom.  So he will be even.
-He recognizes his name.  Originally we thought we would incorporate his Russian
name into his new name to help him get used to his new name.  We planned on
calling him Gleb-Jonah for the first month.  However, he caught onto Jonah
quickly and we did not find that to be a necessary step.
-He likes Brutus and Rocky but LOVES Ender.  I am not sure the feeling is
mutual.
-Jonah has learned about "time outs."  Since then we have had a lot less hands
in the pet water bowl, dumping over of the pets food, shaking on the baby gates etc.  There are
still a few things he ignores despite the threat of time out but overall it has
been very helpful.
-He loves to dance!  Jonah is quite the mover and shaker.  He enjoys listening
to The Beatles, Veggie Tales and a compilation children's CD that includes Cake
and a few other bands.
-We have a schedule?  Just when we thought we were on a good schedule he seems
to be changing it up a bit.  Instead of getting up at 7:15 it has now become
6:15.  I need to adjust his nap time to one long nap vs. two naps in the day.  18
M is the usual marker for this transition but I have REALLY enjoyed having a
morning and afternoon nap.
-Jonah LOVES to be tickled -- especially by Dan.
-No more grass-o-phobia.  He loves being outside and walking barefoot on the
grass (especially when Ender is out.)
-He is eating solid foods.  For bonding purposes we had him eating Gerber level 3 foods.  He enjoyed it but is happy to move onto more solid foods.  This also is much easier for us since it frees us up to eat when he eats.
-Jonah has gone from being terrified of taking a bath to loving it.  In fact, sometimes it is now hard to get him out.  Although he has several bath toys, the shampoo and soap bottles are still his favorite in the tub.
-On a somewhat related note, he took his first trip to the pool this week.  I have attached a picture of Dan in the kiddie pool with Jonah.  We are going to Florida this weekend to visit Dan's parents and I am sure he will enjoy swimming with his Grandpa there.

Hope all is well with each of you.  We are looking forward to introducing Jonah to everyone in the near future!

-Haley
